Bedrock crossplay

Let players on Minecraft Bedrock Edition join your Java server, with one switch.

DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.

Crossplay lets players on Bedrock Edition (phones, tablets, consoles and the Windows version) join your Java server alongside Java players. It is your choice, per server.

Turn it on

  1. Open your server's Settings, Crossplay.
  2. Switch on Bedrock players can join.
  3. Tell your Bedrock players to add our hub address (play.serverhost.example) with the Bedrock port, 19132. They arrive in the hub and pick your server from the server list there. Every server shares the one Bedrock port, so your server has no Bedrock address of its own.

It costs nothing and uses none of your server's memory. The translation is done for you on our side, by one shared setup in each region, so there is nothing to install on your server.

How Bedrock players join

Your server does not get a Bedrock port of its own. Bedrock players join our hub, using the hub address and the standard Bedrock port, 19132. There they pick your server from the server list. In the hub they see chest menus, because the fancier menus are Java only. The picker has a filter for Bedrock players: show all servers, or show only the ones that accept Bedrock. The joinable ones are shown first.

Bedrock players are always allowed in our hub. Your setting only decides whether they can join your server.

What to expect

  • Bedrock players see the same world, but some things work differently on Bedrock. Plugins that rely on Java-only features may not behave the same for them.
  • Bedrock players' names start with a dot, for example .Steve, so they never clash with a Java name. Keep this in mind for permissions and whitelists.
  • Bedrock players' own skins should show for Java players too. We are still checking this: right after a Bedrock player joins, Java players in the hub may see a default skin until the player moves to a server.
  • Bedrock players can always join our hub, even when a server has crossplay off. If they pick a server that does not take Bedrock players, they read "yourserver doesn't let Bedrock players join. Pick another server in the hub." and stay in the hub.
  • The hub's menus show as chest menus for Bedrock players.
  • Which Bedrock versions are supported follows the current release of Geyser, the translator we run.

Turn it off

Switch it off in the same place. From then on Bedrock players cannot join it. Java players are not affected.

Consoles

Consoles cannot type a server address in some cases. Tell your players how to join, and see our Discord (link TBD) for tips. The exact steps are TBD.
