The help bot

Ask the help bot about Server Host, our docs and server problems. Signed in, it can check your server and suggest a fix. It never changes anything.

DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.

The help bot answers questions about Server Host and these docs, and helps with common server problems: lag, crashes, plugins that will not load and players who cannot join. It will be on the website and on the docs pages. It is an AI, so check what it says against the docs when it matters.

What it can do

  • Answer from our docs. Anyone can ask, signed in or not. Answers link to the docs page they come from.
  • Check your server. When you are signed in, ask it about one of your servers by its name, for example "why is mossgrove lagging?". It runs a diagnosis: it reads the server's status, its recent logs and its crash reports, then explains what is wrong and suggests a fix.
  • Point you to plugins. It may link to a plugin's page on Modrinth or Hangar. It never links to other sites.

What it never does

  • It never changes your server. It cannot start, stop, restart, install, delete or change anything. It tells you the steps to do it in the panel, or you can ask your own AI to do it under your Allow, Ask and Block settings. See Connecting your AI.
  • It only sees your own servers, and only what your role on a server lets you see. If your role cannot open the console, it does not read that server's logs. See Team and roles.
  • It never reads chat. Chat lines, private messages and the commands players type are taken out of the logs before the bot sees them, even if you turned on chat reading for your own AI.

Text in logs can be written by players. The bot treats it as information only and does not follow requests found in it.

Your chats

  • Signed in: your chats are saved to your account, so you can come back to them. Open Saved chats in the help bot to see them, open one, delete one, or clear them all.
  • Not signed in: nothing is saved. The conversation lasts while the page is open.
  • Saved chats are part of your data export, and they are deleted when you delete your account.
  • Chats with no new messages for a year are deleted.
  • We keep your newest 100 chats and the last 200 messages of each. When you start a chat past that, the oldest one is deleted.

To write an answer, your question and the matching docs (and, for a diagnosis, the server details above) are sent to an AI model through our AI provider. Do not type passwords or other secrets into the help bot.

Limits

The help bot has no monthly budget that can run out. It has limits to stop abuse, set so that asking it normal questions never runs into them. These numbers may change:

WhoQuestions a dayServer checks a day
Not signed in15none
Signed in4010

There is also a short limit if many questions arrive within a minute. When you reach any limit, the help bot says how long to wait and when your questions come back.

It also stops a few things without asking the AI at all: the same message sent again and again, and repeated tries to make it ignore its rules, show its instructions or write homework or code. It still answers your ordinary questions in the meantime. If the AI is switched off for a while, the help bot lists the docs pages closest to your question instead of writing an answer.

Clearing your saved chats does not give back the questions or server checks you used today. A server check only counts when the bot finds that server among yours.

When the help bot cannot find the answer in these docs, it says so. We keep a short list of those questions, with anything personal taken out and without your name or account, to know which page to write next.

The same check for your own AI

The diagnosis is also a tool for your own AI. Ask your connected AI to diagnose your server and it gets the same findings. Unlike the help bot, your AI can then make the fix, under your settings. See Troubleshooting.

If an answer is wrong

Check the docs page it links to; the docs win.
