Images, fonts and your resource pack
Upload pictures for your menus, use fonts from your own resource pack, and how we combine your pack with the files menus need.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
Menus need a few files on the player's side: shapes, icons and the code that draws Panes. We put them in a resource pack for your server. Players download it when they join. Your own pictures and your own resource pack go into the same pack.
Pictures
Under Menus, in Images and resource pack, give a picture a name and upload it. Then pick it in the builder for an image block, a button or list icon, or a page's background.
- Files: PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 2 MB, and up to 8192 pixels on each side.
- Size: we shrink pictures to fit inside 256 by 256 pixels. Pixel art stays sharp.
- Checks: every picture is checked before it is used. A picture that is not accepted shows Not accepted with the reason. Pictures must follow the rules.
- Names: lower-case letters, numbers,
_and-. Buttons use the name, so renaming means uploading again.
Your own resource pack
If your server already has a resource pack, upload it here instead of in server.properties. We
combine it with the menu files into one pack, so players download one pack, not two.
- A zip file of up to 50 MB.
- Our files win. If your pack has a file at the same place as one of the files menus need, ours is used and yours is left out. The panel tells you how many of your files were replaced.
- A few game files stay the game's own. Menus are drawn with the game's text shaders and its
standard letters, so if your pack changes the text shaders or the shader files they use, or the
standard letter picture (
textures/font/ascii.png), the game's own file is used instead and the panel lists yours as replaced. Fonts of your own under a new name still work (see below). - After each upload we build the pack again and players get it the next time they join.
Fonts
Bitmap fonts in your resource pack can be used for menu words. After you upload your pack, the builder lists them under Look, then Font. Fonts must be bitmap fonts (pictures of letters); other kinds of font are not listed.
If a player turns the pack down
Panes need the pack. A player who turns it down gets chest menus instead, which need no pack.
