Linking your Minecraft account with /claim

Your Server Host account and your Minecraft account are separate. Linking them lets us know which Minecraft player is you. It uses a short code, and you do not need to sign in to Microsoft anywhere.

Link it

1. On the Server Host website, open Account, Minecraft and press Link my Minecraft account. It shows a short code.
2. Join our hub (play.serverhost.example) or your own server in Minecraft.
3. Type /claim CODE in chat, using your code in place of CODE. Codes are 8 letters and numbers; capitals or small letters both work.
4. Confirm the link on the website when it asks. The site then shows that your account is linked, with your Minecraft name.

The code is for you only and works for 10 minutes. If it runs out, make a new one; making a new code switches the old one off. Do not share your code, and do not show it on a stream. Whoever types it first can ask to link their Minecraft account to yours, which is why the website asks you to confirm.

After five wrong codes in 10 minutes, /claim stops working for that player for 10 minutes.

A Minecraft account can be linked to one Server Host account at a time; unlink it under Account, Minecraft. Linking needs Minecraft Java Edition. Bedrock players can play on Server Host servers but cannot link.

If your server has its own /claim (for example a land claim plugin), it keeps working. We only catch /claim when it is followed by one of our 8 character codes; everything else goes to your plugins. In the hub, /claim is always ours.

What linking gives you

• Operator on your server. Linked owners and team admins are made operator on their server automatically.
• The in-game owner menu. A menu in the hub and on your server to restart the server, see who is on and change a few settings, without opening the website.
• Daily-login credits. A login streak counts playing on our network that day, and it only counts toward your account once your Minecraft account is linked. See Credits and plans.

The panel works without linking. You only need to link before you get these things.

Is it safe

Your Minecraft account is checked by Mojang when you join, as for any server. We never see your Microsoft password. We keep your Minecraft name and its ID, and nothing else about your account.
