Chest menus

How every Pane becomes a chest menu for players on other versions, Bedrock or shader packs, and how to design your own chest menu.

DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.

A chest menu is the classic Minecraft menu: items in a chest that players click. Players who cannot see Panes get chest menus instead. See Menus (Panes) for who that is.

Made from your page

You do not need to do anything. Each page becomes a chest menu by itself:

  • Each button becomes an item with the button's words as its name: paper, or the button's icon when it has an item icon. Main buttons are lime dye and danger buttons red dye.
  • Text becomes a book you can read: the first line is its name, the rest shows under it.
  • Each row of a list becomes an item.
  • Tabs become items along the top row that switch tabs.
  • Long pages get Back and Next arrows, with the page number between them.

Clicking an item does the same as clicking the button in the Pane. Buttons with a permission only show to players who have it, the same as in the Pane.

Your own chest design

In the builder, open Chest menu on the right and pick My own chest design. Then:

  • Pick the chest rows (1 to 6) and the chest title.
  • Optionally pick an item for empty slots, like gray_stained_glass_pane.
  • Click a slot to put an item there. Give it an item, a name, up to 8 lines under the name, a shine if you like, a permission if only some players should see it, and what it does when clicked (the same safe list as buttons).

On the free plan the last slot of the chest (bottom right) shows "Powered by" and our name, so leave it empty in your design. The builder points it out if something is there.

Your own chest design is used when How players see menus is set to Panes, with my own chest design as backup or Chest menus only. With Panes, with chest menus as backup, the chest menu is always made from the page.

Use Chest menu in the middle of the builder to see exactly what the chest will look like.
