Console
Watch your server log live, run any command, find lines, act on players and get errors explained.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
The console shows what your server prints, as it happens, and lets you type commands.
Reading the log
- New lines appear live. Scroll up to read older lines; the console stops following while you read and shows Jump to latest to go back down.
- Lines from the last 14 days load when you open the console. We save up to 32 MB of console output per server each day; a server that prints more than that gets a note saying the saved log stops there until the next day. The live console still shows every line.
- Each line shows one time, in your own time zone. The server's own clock, which is often in another time zone, is left off.
- Colours help: warnings are amber, errors red, your own commands blue with a
>in front, joins and leaves grey, and anything your AI did is green and marked AI. - Chat lines show to you here. Your AI never reads chat unless you turn that on in The AI page.
Finding lines
- Show chips filter the log: Everything, Warnings and errors, Errors, AI only, Your commands, Joins and leaves, and Chat.
- The search box highlights every line that contains your words.
- Press the time at the start of a line to copy a link to that moment. Opening the link shows the log around that line, marked.
Typing commands
Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter or Send. Leave off the leading slash. Your console takes any command; you are the owner, so there is no allowlist here. Your AI has a limited list; you do not.
- Suggestions: as you type, the console suggests commands your server knows, including plugin commands. For commands that take a player, it suggests the names of players online.
- History: press Up and Down to walk through commands you typed before. History is kept only in this browser, and it is wiped when you sign out, so the next person on a shared computer cannot see what you typed.
Players in the log
Player names in the log are buttons. Press one for Kick, Ban (with a reason and a length), Make op or Remove op, Add to whitelist, Message, and a link to that player's page.
Explain this error
Error lines have an Explain button. It sends the error and the lines around it to the same diagnosis our help bot uses and shows, in plain words, what went wrong and what to try. It only reads; it changes nothing.
Who typed what
Each command typed in the console is kept in the server's history, so you can see who typed what.
Passwords are left out: the words after login and password commands (like login or
changepassword), password=... style values and long random-looking keys are stored as
"[removed]". If someone is removed from your team, or their role no longer allows the console, their
open console stops at once and they can no longer type in it.
Keys
The console has a few keys: Enter sends, Up and Down walk history or suggestions, Tab takes a suggestion, Esc closes suggestions. With the log focused, ? shows the list and End follows new lines again. The Keybinds button shows the same list on a phone. These keys only work in the console.
When the server is asleep
A sleeping server has no live output because nothing is running. The console says so and offers Start server. Joining the server wakes it too. See Sleeping and waking.
If the server keeps crashing
A crashed server restarts by itself. If it crashes three times in 10 minutes it stops, we tell you (see Alerts), and the panel shows Explain the crash and Roll back at the top of every server page. See Troubleshooting.
