Rules and reports
The rules servers on our network follow, how players and owners report problems, and what we do about them.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
The legal pages (terms of service, privacy policy, acceptable use and the rest) are the full rules. They are drafts that a lawyer still has to check. This page says the same things in plain words. Where they differ, the legal pages win.
The short rules
- Owners are 13 or older. Anyone can join a server without an account.
- Follow Mojang's rules. For example, you cannot sell gameplay advantages (pay-to-win ranks), only cosmetics. Crates cannot be sold for money in a gambling way. We pass on Mojang's rules in our terms.
- No attacks, no crypto mining, no using the server to hurt other people or services. We watch for heavy, odd CPU use and blocked outgoing connections.
- One free server per person. Fake accounts to get more free servers or credits are not allowed.
- Keep it kind. Names, MOTDs and icons are checked before they show in our hub's list.
- Do not run a copy of a premade setup elsewhere. Our plugins are for our network.
/huband/report-serverstay on every server. You cannot turn them off.
What we check
- Server names and MOTDs pass a word filter before they show in the hub's list. Servers that are not listed are not filtered.
- Plugin files installed from the panel are scanned. A plugin the scan blocks cannot be installed on any plan. See Plugins.
- Heavy CPU use, odd outgoing connections and fake-account signs are flagged. A person looks at a flag before anything is done, and we do not ban anyone automatically.
- Clear crypto mining or attack traffic stops that one server for a check. See Safety checks for exactly when, and what happens next.
- The anti-cheat on our premade setups only flags players and tells staff. It does not kick or ban unless you turn that on for your own server.
- We do not scan everything owners upload ahead of time. We act on reports.
Reporting
Players in our hub. Type /report in the hub to report a player or a message. A report goes to
our staff with the reported line and the few lines around it, and nothing else from the chat is
stored.
A server or its icon. Type /report-server on any server on our network, or use the report a
server form on our website. Owners cannot turn the command off. Reports go to our staff.
On your own server. Players report to you through your own plugins and rules. Our hub's rules do not reach your server's chat.
Help us help you. Say what happened, when, and where. Do not share passwords or personal details in a report.
A child in danger or illegal content. Report it with the same commands or email us. Staff read every report. If we learn of apparent child sexual abuse material, we report it to the authorities and keep it as the law asks. See the Legal requests and child safety page.
What we do
When a server breaks the rules, we go in steps. Each step comes only after a person has looked.
- We look at the report, with context.
- The owner gets a warning first, and we say what to fix.
- If it keeps happening, the server is unlisted: it is taken out of the hub's list. The server itself still works, and players who know the address can join.
- If it still goes on, or it is causing harm, the server is suspended.
Nothing is banned automatically, so we can avoid banning someone by mistake. Through every step you can still export your worlds, configs and own plugins, unless the problem is illegal content.
Our hub's bans and mutes only apply in the hub. Each owner decides about their own server. Staff actions in the hub are logged.
If you disagree
Write to us and a different person will look again. TBD: the exact way to appeal a warning or an unlisted server (the contact address is still to be set).
Listing
Any server can list itself in the hub. A listed server can be reported and reviewed. A server that is not listed stays private to your own players.
