Deleting, recovering and handing over a server
Delete a server with 30 days to change your mind, bring it back, and give a server to another account.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
Delete a server
Only the owner can delete a server. Open the server's menu, choose Delete, and type the server's name to confirm. If you signed in a while ago, we ask you to confirm it is you (your password, or a fresh sign-in) first.
What happens:
- If the server is running, it stops.
- We take a last backup of everything. If the world is in storage (a server archived after 30 days unused), we bring it back first, so the backup holds your real world. If that backup fails, nothing is deleted and the panel tells you.
- The server leaves your list and its address stops working. Pending AI approvals are cancelled and timers are switched off.
The last backup is kept for 30 days. During that time the name stays yours, and you can bring the server back. Any other stored copy of the world is removed when you delete. After 30 days the last backup is removed for good and the name is free for anyone.
Deleting is the only way a world is ever removed. Servers that are not used are archived, never deleted. See Sleeping and waking.
Bring a deleted server back
Your recently deleted servers are listed under Deleted servers on your server list, each with the date until which it can come back. Press Bring back. The server is rebuilt from its last backup and ends asleep, ready to join.
Bringing a server back uses a server slot, like making a new one. A free account has one free server, so if you have made another free server since, delete that one first or choose a paid plan.
Give a server to another account
The owner can hand a server to another account:
- Open the server's menu and choose Hand over. We may ask you to confirm it is you first.
- Type the email address of the other person's account. We show the same message whether or not the address has an account, so this cannot be used to find out who has one.
- The other person sees the offer in their panel under Offers and chooses Accept or Decline. Accepting may ask them to confirm it is them. An offer lasts 7 days, and you can cancel it before it is accepted.
When they accept:
- The server, its files, worlds and name move to them. They become the owner.
- Your plan credits stay with you. The server keeps its current plan until the paid time ends, with auto-renew off, and then the new owner picks a plan.
- You lose access to the server at once, including your SFTP login and any panel tab you still have open. Pending AI approvals are cancelled.
- If the server is on the free plan, the new owner needs a free slot.
Your team
Team members are not moved or removed by a hand-over, except the new owner, who stops being a member because they are now the owner. See Team and roles.
