Alerts
Get told about crashes, approvals and more by email, Discord message, Discord channel or browser.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
Alerts tell you when something needs you, without you watching the panel. Set them up under Account, Alerts. Each alert channel has its own list of events, and can cover all your servers or just one. If your account has an email, confirm it before adding alerts.
Four ways to be told
- Email. To your account email, once it is confirmed. Best kept for the important things.
- Discord message. A direct message from our bot.
- Discord channel. A message posted into a channel in your own Discord server.
- Browser push. A notification in your browser or on your phone.
Discord messages from our bot
- Join our community Discord (link TBD). The bot can only message people who share a server with it.
- Sign in to Server Host with Discord, or link Discord under Account, Sign-in methods.
- Add a Discord message channel and pick the events.
Discord lets you stop messages from server members. If that is off, the bot cannot reach you. The channel then shows "Our bot can't message you" and, for the important events (a server that keeps crashing, a full disk, a flagged plugin, an AI waiting for your OK, a player report, a plan renewal), we send an email instead if your email is confirmed.
A Discord channel of your own
- In your Discord server, open the channel's settings, Integrations, Webhooks, and make a new
webhook. Copy its address. It starts with
https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. - Paste it in the panel under Alerts, Discord channel and press Send a test message.
- Pick the events, for example the server waking or sleeping, and how many players are on.
Treat the webhook address like a password. Anyone with it can post in that channel. We store it locked away and only ever show its last four characters. If it is ever posted by accident, delete the webhook in Discord and paste a new one. If Discord deletes the webhook, the channel switches itself off and tells you why.
Our messages never ping anyone: no @everyone, no @here, no role or user mentions.
Browser push
Press Turn on browser notifications and allow them when your browser asks. Push works on your phone if your browser supports it. If you later block notifications or clear the browser, the channel switches itself off.
Test it
Every channel has Send a test message. If the test does not arrive, the panel says why in plain words, for example that the webhook no longer exists.
The events
| Event | Suggested for |
|---|---|
| Server crashed | Discord message, browser push |
| Server keeps crashing (stopped after several crashes) | email, Discord message, browser push |
| Server could not start | Discord message |
| Server woke up, went to sleep and so on | Discord channel |
| Players online | Discord channel |
| Server archived after 30 days unused | |
| Disk nearly full | email, Discord message |
| A backup failed | |
| A plugin update is out | any |
| A plugin file matched our list of harmful files | email, Discord message |
| Your AI is waiting for your OK | Discord message, browser push |
| A new AI app was connected | always emailed to you (see below); add Discord or push if you like |
| Team changes | any |
| Credits changed | any |
| A plan renews soon or can't renew | |
| A player report about your server | Discord message |
| Boost updates | any |
A new AI app on your account is always emailed to your confirmed address, even with no alert channel set up, because it can work on your servers. You can't turn that email off.
The suggestions are defaults; pick whatever suits you. Busy events (players online, wake and sleep, credits) are sent at most once a minute per channel, so a channel never floods.
Emails
Email has four kinds. Account emails (verify your email, password reset, new sign-in, two-factor changes) are always on. Server alerts come by email only if you choose that. Billing emails cover receipts, a plan renewing or expiring, and low credits. Product news is off unless you turn it on.
Alerts for team members
Team members can add their own alert channels for a server they help run. They only get the events their role lets them see: for example, a moderator gets crashes and players but not billing. If they leave the team, their alerts for that server stop.
