Worlds
Every world with size, seed and last played; upload, download, reset, extra worlds, the main world, borders and pre-generation.
DraftThis page is a first draft and may change.
The Worlds page lists the worlds on your server (the overworld, the nether, the end and any extra worlds), and the datapacks in each one.
Your worlds
The page lists every world on the server (overworld, nether, end and extra ones) with its size, seed and when it was last played. You can create extra worlds, for example a creative world, and choose which one is the main spawn world. Datapacks install per world. See Plugins.
Upload a world
- Zip your world folder. The zip can hold the world's files at the top (
level.datand the rest) or one folder with them inside. Both work. - Press Upload world and choose the zip.
- Pick a name for the world, and whether it replaces a world with the same name.
We check the file and its size, take a backup first, and unpack it safely, away from your server. The zip can be as big as your plan's disk space. If the file is too big, or is not a safe zip, the page says what is wrong and nothing changes. If the server was running, it stops for the import and starts again after.
An upload can only replace a world, or go into a new folder. A name already used by a folder that is
not a world, such as plugins or config, is refused, and that folder is left as it was.
The upload is refused, with a plain reason, if it:
- is bigger than your server's free disk space,
- unpacks to far more than its own size (a "zip bomb"),
- holds file paths that point outside the world, or shortcut files (links), or
- has a password.
Files that Macs add to zips (__MACOSX, .DS_Store) are skipped for you.
Download a world
Choose Download next to a world, at any time, on any plan. You get a zip; the link works for an hour.
Reset or regenerate
Reset or regenerate makes the world again from a seed. Type a seed for a particular map or leave it blank for a random one. Type the world's name to confirm.
We take a backup before every reset and every upload that replaces a world, always. If you did not mean it, restore it. See Backups and restores. The reset asks you to confirm first.
Resetting your main world also resets its Nether and End. Stop the server first; a reset never runs while players are on. Once the reset has begun, starting the server waits until it has finished, backup included. If the server is started before the reset begins, the reset stops and nothing is deleted.
A reset only ever touches worlds: your main world, an extra world, or a folder that holds a world.
Other folders, such as plugins or config, are never reset, whatever name is asked for (by you or
your AI).
Extra worlds
Create world adds an extra world, Multiverse style, for example a creative world. Pick its type (Overworld, Nether or End), its terrain (Normal, Flat, Empty, Amplified or Large biomes) and, if you like, a seed. Extra worlds can be deleted (type the name to confirm); the main world, the nether and the end can only be reset.
- If the server is running, the new world loads at once. Otherwise it loads the next time the server starts.
- Make main world sets which world players spawn in. It takes effect at the next start.
- Remove takes the world off the server. You choose whether its files are deleted too.
- A name already used by a folder that is not a world, such as
plugins, cannot be used for a new world. A folder you uploaded that holds a world can be added as an extra world by its name.
The main world
Make this the main world picks which overworld players spawn in. It applies after a restart.
World border
World border sets how wide the world is, in blocks, or removes the border. Free servers have no border by default; the 5 GB disk is the only limit.
Pre-generating
Paid plans can pre-generate the land around spawn so exploring does not lag. Pick how far and press Start pre-generating. On free servers the world is generated as players explore.
Datapacks
Each world has its own datapacks. They live on the Plugins page, under Datapacks.
- Add from Modrinth. Search Modrinth and install one into the chosen world. We pick the newest version for your Minecraft version, download it ourselves, check it matches the file Modrinth published, and check the zip is safe and really is a datapack.
- Upload your own. Upload a datapack zip. The same checks apply.
- Turn on or off. Switch a datapack off without removing it, and on again later.
- Remove. Takes it out of the world.
We take a backup of the world before adding or removing a datapack. If the server is running, the datapacks reload at once; you do not need to restart.
For now datapacks work in the main world only. Minecraft loads datapacks from the main world, and loading them into extra worlds needs a part of our server plugin that is not ready yet, so adding or turning on a datapack in an extra world is refused with a message saying so. You can still see, turn off and remove any datapack an extra world already has.
Move to another region
Moving a server between NA and EU needs worlds kept in shared storage, which we switch on once we run more than one machine. Until then the Move button explains this and nothing changes. You can pin a server to its region in Settings.
Your AI
Your AI can reset a world if you set that action to Allow. It starts on Ask. See The AI page.
